Using NextOS on any device

NextOS is a web app, not a native one for any particular device - it runs in any modern browser, on a laptop, a phone, a tablet, a TV, or a fridge or other smart display with a browser built in. The shell you see adjusts to the screen: the full Field shell (windows, the launch strip) on a laptop or desktop, a launcher-first mobile shell on a phone, and the desktop shell run with a finger on a tablet. A TV or a fridge screen just runs it in that device's own browser - there is no separate "TV app" or "fridge app".

What follows you between devices

Sign in and your files and tables move with you: open a note on your phone, and it's there when you next open your laptop, through the same sync that keeps every other file in your account up to date. Some individual settings (layout, certain preferences) follow you too, once you turn syncing on for that particular setting - it isn't automatic for every single one.

Stay signed out, and everything stays local to the one browser you're using. That's deliberate: nothing about your session leaves that device.

Installing it

None of these go through an app store - they tell your browser to keep a shortcut and open NextOS full-screen, like an installed app:

• iOS Safari: open NextOS, tap the Share icon, then "Add to Home Screen".
• Android Chrome: open NextOS, open the menu (⋮), then "Install app".
• Desktop Chrome or Edge: open NextOS, then click the install icon in the address bar and confirm.

On a TV or a fridge screen

If the screen has a browser - a smart TV's built-in one, a cast from your laptop or phone, or a fridge or smart-display's browser - you can open NextOS on it the same as any other site. It's the same OS underneath, not a cut-down mode: from a few feet away, a simple app with large type (Today, Calendar, Reminders, Photos, or a dashboard you want to glance at) is what actually reads well, so that's what these screens are for in practice.

What works without a connection

Your filesystem already lives on the device you're using, so most ordinary work - opening files, editing notes, using apps - keeps going with no internet connection at all. The app itself is cached after your first visit, so reloading NextOS still opens the real shell rather than an error page, even offline. Anything that needs to reach another device or a server - syncing to your other devices, anything a hosted app needs live data for - picks back up automatically once your connection returns.

This is separate from the assistant's own offline model - a specific, opt-in download that lets the assistant itself keep answering with no connection. That's one more thing that can work offline, not a requirement for the rest of NextOS to.
