Messages gives the desktop a chat surface with exactly two kinds of thread, and neither one fakes anything. An agent thread starts a real run against one of your configured Agents - its provider, model, system prompt, tools and approval settings, live.
The other kind is a plain local thread for anything that is not an agent conversation, kept and searchable the same way.
